MADÁCH BRIDGE

The location of the bridge held the once-famous four-arch stone vaulted Ipoly Bridge in Rárós. The bridge was dismantled in the early 20th century, and the steel bridge built in its place was destroyed during World War II. The basic concept for the design of the bridge was inspired by the old stone bridge. Therefore, using modern materials, we designed a structure that meets current road and water management requirements while evoking the appearance and decoration of the old bridge.

The bridge’s static system is a reinforced concrete barrel vault with disc stiffening. While the largest span of the old bridge was approximately 7.6 meters, the new bridge’s largest span is 27 meters, suitable for leading away receding floods. The baroque cast-iron statue of St. John of Nepomuk is reinstated on the stone-clad bridge.
