Independent check of the viaduct
of the Zalalövő-Bajánsenye Railway Line

The Viaduct of the Zalalövő – Bajánsenye - State Border Railway Line has been built in 1999-2000. The superstructure is a prestressed concrete box section multispan beam. The whole bridge consist of three structures: a 16 span straight bridge, a14 span curved (R=2300 m) bridge, and a 2 span bridge in between them. The sidal bridges have been constructed by the incremental launching method started from the abutments, the intermediate bridge has been built on falsework after the removal of the steel noses. The independent statical check of the bridge has been made by Pont-TERV Engineering Consultants.

The analysis has been made with the RM7 program of TDV Austria, invented for the analysis of prestressed concrete bridges. The program is based on a spaceframe FEM program, but contains special modules for the analysis of the cross-sections, the tendon geometry, the prestressing actions and losses and for the time dependent modelling of the creep and shrinkage behaviour.

The prestressing tendons of the bridge consist of three groups: parallel construction cables in the deck and the bottom slab, curved continuity cables in the webs and external continuity cables lead in the box on saddles. The program allows the exact modelling of the creep and shrinkage as well.

The outer fibre stresses, the principal stresses and the ultimate moments has been computed for the characteristic cross sections. The bridge has been checked for both of the final and the construction stages (this later is governing for most of the cross sections due to the incremental launching technology).
